The availability and services of special support personnel play an important role in the care we give to our residents. Registered nurses, a registered dietitian, social service director and activity director are on staff, while a dentist, licensed social worker, and pharmacist consult regularly. These professionals offer a wide range of expertise, which benefits our residents.
The Social Services Department coordinates with other departments at the Home to ensure all residents’ needs are met. There is a Social Service Aide on each unit to assist residents in becoming familiar with Good Samaritan Home and to help arrange any services residents may want. These services may include: library visits, chaplain or clergy visits, eye care, hearing or dental exams, hospice services, discharge services for residents who are returning to their homes, voter registration, address changes, writing or contacting family and friends, shopping services, completing advance directives, and more. Social Services also makes sure residents and families are informed of their rights, and helps address concerns or questions regarding their care.
The Activity Department helps residents remain active and continue to live life fully. They plan and coordinate a wide variety of activities in the building as well as trips and outings. An activity professional on each unit plans monthly programming tailored to the needs of the individuals. Parties, exercise, crafts, musical programs, intergenerational events, art lessons, floraculture, mystery meal outings, theater trips, and even boat rides on the Mississippi fill the lives of the residents at Good Samaritan Home.
The Watson Aquatic Center is open to all residents and the community. The Center offers a wide variety of services including physical, occupational, and speech/language therapies. Programs are also available to those persons who would benefit from exercise and therapy in our warm water pool.
