Youth Corps

Written by: Sally Hodgson, Director of Activities

School will be out for summer before we know it! That means our Youth Corp volunteer program will be in full swing! The Youth Corps volunteers are teens between 12 and 15 years old.  Primarily, the volunteers assist Activity staff with group activities. They also help the beauty shop and nursing staff, run errands, spend time with residents, help in the dining room, clean, do clerical work, play games, give manicures, wash wheelchairs, help with special events, and so much more! As you can see, they are huge help through the summer!

Additionally, we do have some special volunteers aged 10 and 11. These volunteers are children that have taken the initiative to inquire about volunteer opportunities. These volunteers help at certain events under the direct supervision of Activity staff members.

Several other youth volunteers have gone on to become valued Good Samaritan Home employees. Currently, the Activity Department has one youth corps alum, the Youth Corps Coordinator, Rachel! Also, Kelsey in Social Services and Allie in Accounting were former Youth Corp volunteers.

Our current program has over 40 youth from all over Adams County.  If you know any teens we might consider for our program please contact Activities at ext. 4227 for more information.

Prayer Request & Scripture

This week we are praying for the residents in Sunny Dale and the Dietary/Kitchen staff.

Our Scripture of the Week is First Corinthians 15:3-6: “I passed on to you what I received, of which this was most important: that Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say; that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day as the Scriptures say; and that he was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles. After that, Jesus was seen by more than five hundred of the believers at the same time.”
