The Christmas Tree Facts & History

No doubt you’ve seen the activities staff hard at work putting Christmas trees up last week. Here are some fun facts about them!

-Germany is credited with starting the Christmas Tree tradition as we know it when devout Christians in the 16th century brought decorated pine or fur trees into their homes.

-Christmas Trees are grown in all 50 states including Hawaii.

-In medieval times in Poland, Christmas Trees were hung from the ceiling, as the inverted triangle represented The Holy Trinity.

-Americans buy about 30 million Christmas Trees each year.

-New England Puritans banned Christmas Trees in 1659, calling it a “heathen tradition”.

-A 6-foot Christmas tree takes about a decade to fully grow.

“Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we’re here for something else besides ourselves.”
