Hidden Heroes
By: Mike Duffy, Administrator/CEO

Through the extreme we’ve had in January, I’ve been reminded of our staff’s dedication, service, and teamwork. Through the bad weather, our team came together on their own, not under the direction of their supervisors, to make sure the needs of our residents were met.

Chaplain James Riley spent hours driving staff to and from work during the first snowstorm. Our maintenance staff worked diligently around the clock to make sure our streets, driveways, and parking lots were cleared. Maintenance Director Jerry Manton stayed here overnight through the extreme cold to make sure our boilers continued to work properly. Diane Ames and Anna Lord, our weekend and evening nursing supervisors, tirelessly made calls to coordinate staff to make sure they were coming to work. Staffing Coordinator Tonya Ervin did her best to prepare in advance and leave detailed information to cover call-ins. Our dietary department took it upon themselves to get each other to work during the extreme snow. Tammy Sheets, a cook also showed her appreciation to staff by buying sodas for everyone out of her own pocket.

Countless staff came prepared for the weather and stayed in empty rooms here at the Home, to make sure people shifts were covered. This list is not exhaustive, but I wanted to take time to thank and honor those who contribute to a culture we should be proud of. Our staff is committed to the work they do and rose up during a difficult time to get the job done. Good Samaritan Home is truly blessed to have people who care!

Prayer Request and Scripture

This week we are praying for the residents in Stevenson Manor and for the Nursing Staff.

Our Scripture of the Week is Zephaniah 3:17: “Your God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you. Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love and delight you with his songs.”

Weekly Inspiration

“There’s nothing that can help you understand your beliefs more than trying to explain them to an inquisitive child.” – Frank A. Clark
