Short-term Rehabilitation

Written by: Cindy Gilbert, Director of Admissions

Short-term rehabilitation is a good option for those recovering from surgeries, accidents, or illnesses. It is designed for individuals who are ready to leave the hospital but not ready to return to normal activities. Medicare coverage of short-term rehabilitation is contingent on a patient spending at least three nights classified as inpatient hospital stay. Any days in the hospital under observation do not count towards Medicare’s requirements.

Good Samaritan Home has 28 Medicare-certified beds located on Eber Gardens and McReynolds Center. We provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy, along with several other skilled nursing services. Length of stay will vary with each patient, can be anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. This is determined based on Medicare’s criteria. Our staff will work with individuals and their families to develop a plan of care that will best suit the resident’s needs. Residents in short-term rehab are welcome to participate in any activities and utilize the wide range of amenities and services that Good Samaritan Home offers.

Be sure to let our us know if you are planning to have surgery that will require therapy services. Tell your doctor and family that Good Samaritan Home is where you want to recuperate! If you have any questions about the admissions process or Medicare coverage, please call us at 217-223-8717.

Prayer Request & Scripture

This week we are praying for the residents in McReynolds Center and for the Admissions staff.

Our Scripture of the Week, the fourth week of Lent, is Psalm 38:17-22: “I am about to die, and I cannot forget my pain. I confess my guilt; I am troubled by my sin. My enemies are strong and healthy, and many hate me for no reason. They repay me with evil for the good I did. They lie about me because I try to do good. Lord, don’t leave me; my God, don’t go away. Quickly come and help me, my Lord and Savior.”

Weekly Inspiration

“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.” – Colin Powell

To celebrate Opening Day, we are having a Baseball Cookout on Thursday, March 28. The special lunch will feature brats, hot dogs, burgers, cracker jacks, root beer, and apple pie. Residents and employees are encouraged to wear their favorite baseball team shirt! Employees may wear jeans.
