The Patter

News & Views from Campus: November 11-17, 2018

Written by: Sally Hodgson, Director of Activities

As we honor those who served our country with Veterans Day this year, Good Samaritan Home would like to express our appreciation to all veterans, past and present. We also invite you to visit our Wall of Heroes, outside the main dining room. Residents, staff, family and friends who serve are represented on the wall with information about their services and a picture.

Veterans Day recognizes those who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with Armistice Day, the anniversary of the formal end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. The federal holiday is often confused with Memorial Day in May. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all US military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died in military service.

We honor all of our veterans on November 11, and thank them deeply for their service and self-less commitment to our country. The Wall of Heroes will be on display throughout the month of September, so please stop by and take a look!

Prayer Request and Scripture

This week we are praying for the residents in Sheltering Grove and for the Beauty Shop and General Store staff.

Our Scripture of the Week is Nahum 1:7: “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”

Christmas Memorial Service

Our Annual Christmas Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 4 at 6:30 pm in the Wee Kirk Chapel. This service will celebrate the memory of residents and cottagers who died in the last year. It is also open to anyone who would like us to remember a loved one in this way no matter when they died or where. For information on submitting names and pictures (for the ornament), please go to www.gshq.org/ornaments or ask the front receptionist for a printout of the instructions.

Reservations for Thanksgiving Meal

Our annual Thanksgiving lunch will be served on Thursday, November 22. All are welcome! This meal is free for residents, $6 for cottagers, and $12 for all other adults. Reservations for cottagers, family members, and other guests are requested at the front desk by November 15 to help us get a more accurate guest count for food preparation, but not required.
